The Family of Mobsters
1.5 million Children have a parent that is either in a state or federal prison (according to cbsnews.com). That statistic is very interesting because in the book Son of the Mob by Gordan Korman. Vince from Son of the Mob knows that feeling because his father and uncles that have been in and out of jail, and they are part of the mob. This book shows the trials and tribulations of being in a family of mobsters.
Although being the son of mobsters sounds terrible there are some advantages. Such as getting a lot of girls and also having very nice thing like big house, nice car and lots of money. Most of the effects that come with being a son of mobsters are negatives. In the book Vince was going on a date and when he opened the trunk to get a blanket and there was a guy almost beaten to death and blood everywhere. Once his girlfriend saw the body she wasn’t too pleased, they never talked again.
In addition to those reasons the people are also very scared of Vince because of his family. When he got his very first ever carry in the football season nobody wanted to even touch him because they knew his family. They didn’t want to get hurt or even killed by them. Also at school everyone thinks they have to be nice to him because they don’t want Vince’s family coming after them.
Lastly but the most impacting in Vince’s life is the way he gets all of his nice things. For example he got a Porsche for his birthday. Later that day the cops pulled him over because the car was stolen. That’s when he realized his dad stole it then gave it to him. Also in the book it said even the food they eat is stolen from stores. Then the big house they own is paid for by the money they have stolen or gotten illegally. The last thing it said in the book about this was the credit card they have was from the bank called Banco Commercial de Tijuana. It is a Mexican credit card that his dad stole and people in Mexico are working and putting their hard earned money on there, which is going to the us and the Luca family.
In conclusion this information shows the trials and tribulations of being in a family of mobsters. How Vince was in Son of the Mob by Gordan Korman. With having your parent going in and out of jail and stealing things I know I wouldn’t want to live that life. Would you?
